Aitutaki's One Foot Island has won the 15th annual World Travel Award for Australasia's best beach.

One Foot Island beat out other finalists Cable Beach in Broome, Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands and Wine Glass Bay in Tasmania to take the honour.

One foot Island was not the only Cook Island winner on the night. The Pacific Resort Aitutaki won both the Australasia and Cook Islands leading resort award for the second year running. And the Little Polynesian won the title of 'Cook Islands Leading Boutique Hotel'.

The World Travel Awards are the most comprehensive and prestigious in the global travel industry. Established in 1993 and hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the 'Travel industry's equivalent to the Oscars', they seek to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the world's travel and tourism industry. Votes are cast by travel professionals from travel agencies in over 190 countries across the globe.
